Biographical Information

Vaclav Pavlik finished his doctoral thesis at Charles University in September 2019. He then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (November 2019-August 2020) and in September 2020, he joined the Astronomy Department at IU, Bloomington.

Research Interests

Vaclav's primary research area is in stellar dynamics, from theory and numerical models to their comparison with observational results. His thesis and research papers focus on the formation and evolutionary properties of star clusters, the role of binary stars or stellar evolution in these systems, or on the impact of star clusters on the galactic scale.

Outreach

Besides his research, Vaclav is largely involved in outreach activities and teaching the younger generation about astronomy. Since 2012, he works (now remotely) as an editor of Astropis (Czech journal for popularizing astronomy and cosmonautics), in the same year, he became a Board member of the Czech Astronomy Olympiad (competition for students up to high school). He translated or refereed books about astronomy meant for the general public. And while finishing his doctoral thesis, he also worked full-time at the Prague Planetarium as an educator (January 2018 - August 2020).
