Undergraduate Degree Programs in Astronomy and Astrophysics
The Department of Astronomy offers courses toward:
- B.S. degree in Astronomy and Astrophysics
- B.A. major in Astronomy and Astrophysics
- Minor in Astronomy and Astrophysics.
Students in the B.S. Degree program may graduate with departmental honors if they meet GPA requirements and complete an independent research project within the context of AST-S499. In addition, with judicious selection of courses, B.S. program students may be able to complete degrees in both Physics (BS) and Astronomy and Astrophysics (BS).
Note to transfer students: Taking the required courses in the proper order is critically important, and it normally takes three years at IU to complete the coursework for either a B.A. or B.S. in Astronomy and Astrophysics. If you're planning to transfer to IU for upper division coursework in this major, your pathway at IU will be expedited if you receive transfer credit for the relevant introductory physics, mathematics, and astronomy courses.
